Chief Secretary visits Sichuan (with photos/video)

An HKSARG delegation, led by the Chief Secretary for Administration, Mr Henry Tang, today (August 31) commenced a three-day visit to Sichuan to inspect the latest progress of reconstruction projects funded by the HKSAR.

In the afternoon, the delegation visited the Shuimo Middle School in the Wenchuan County, a reconstruction project jointly funded by the HKSAR and Foshan Municipality of Guangdong. Mr Tang officiated at the opening ceremony for the HKSAR-funded teaching complex of the school. The Shuimo Middle School was damaged in the 5.12 Earthquake and needed to be demolished and reconstructed. The students had continued their studies in other provinces and municipalities. The reconstruction is now completed and students can study and live in the new school premises.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, Mr Tang encouraged students to treasure the opportunity and contribute to rebuilding their home and developing the country.

The delegation also inspected a major HKSAR-funded infrastructural project, the Provincial Road 303 (Yingxiu to Wolong section), in the Wenchuan County. The 45km-long road starts in Yingxiu, Aba Prefecture. It passes through Gengda Town and ends in Wolong Town. The road is a life-line for the Wolong natural reserve. Construction works started in end April this year.
