SFH meets Sichuan earthquake victims (with photos)

The Secretary for Food and Health, Dr York Chow, today (August 27) met five Sichuan earthquake victims in Tai Po Hospital. The five were injured in the earthquake and had undergone amputations.

Dr Chow was concerned about their recuperation and encouraged them to work hard for the future. He hoped that they could maintain good health and keep a positive and active attitude to pursue a fruitful life.

With the help of the Stand TALL project initiated by the Chinese Speaking Orthopaedic Society, the five victims were provided with prostheses and rehabilitation services.

One of them came to Hong Kong to have an operation in July, while the other four, who are students of Beichuan Secondary School, were here to receive medical assessment and training.

The Government's Trust Fund in Support of Reconstruction in the Sichuan Earthquake Stricken Areas had allocated about $46 million to the Stand TALL project for the setting up of Sichuan-Hong Kong Rehabilitation Training and Development Centre to train rehabilitation experts for the medical sector in Sichuan.

The project also provides prosthetics and rehabilitation services, including physiotherapy and psychological counselling services, to the earthquake victims.
